My name is Clare McAfee, I’m 34 years old, and have an avid interest in health and fitness which is the main focus of my blog.
The name Off The Couch came about simply because I used to spend far too much time sitting on the couch, not exercising, eating a poor diet and feeling pretty depressed. The purpose of this blog is to encourage anyone else who is feeling this way to make some small changes in their life, to help them on their way to being healthier and happier.
Now we often have some road blocks on our way to reaching our health goals, and I’m no different. I’ve had Premature Ovarian Failure since my early 20’s, so promoting women’s health is very important to me, in addition to mental health and physical health too. Menopause and ovarian failure are topics not often talked about, and symptoms are often not addressed as they’re thought of as just being part of aging. Well that’s true, but there’s a lot that can be done to manage any symptoms that crop up, and I’ll be discussing those treatments here, particularly the newer treatments now available.
I was also very recently diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis, which for now, has me more onthecouch than offthecouch! But I’m making great strides in recovering from this “incurable” disorder, and will be sharing what works for me treatment-wise here in the hope that it helps others suffering with this condition.
I do believe that no matter what life throws at you, you can do a lot to live a healthy and happy life, which is what any of us want for ourselves. There are always going to be those bumps in the road, but it’s how you choose to deal with them that counts. So I’ll be sharing my own experiences of both POF and IC, with tips on what I find helps me get through the rough patches, as well as posting relevant articles on other aspects of mental and physical health that you may find useful.
Wishing you good health and happiness!
